IT'S OKAY TO LET GO OF PERFECTION - let's chat

Returning to blogging has been like reuniting with an old friend, after that awkward hello it kind of seems like you never left. Even though so many of those first blogs I fell in love with have ceased to exist there are still quite a few that have hung in there and resisted the lure (or at least returned after a brief tryst) of instagram and remember the way that blogging encourages relationships.  And isn't that something that is sorely missing in our hustle and bustle world.

I am talking about just that on my midweek podcast and I'd love to hear what you think.  Is it okay to
admit when we just aren't good at everything?

Or has our online world made us believe that we need to keep striving for perfection?  Have we forgotten the joy in the day to day?  Are we so busy comparing our lives to the online lives of others that we have lost the blessing in the ordinary.  I'd love for you to take a listen and then leave a comment either here or there.  These are the things I think about and I wonder if you do, too?

Hoping you have some connecting events happening this weekend even if it's just enjoying some time at home with those you love.

xo, Patty

Here's my latest podcast.  I'd love for you to subscribe and join in on the conversation because life isn't about perfection, it's about connection.

  1. Oh Patty, you have no idea how much good was in this video. What do we do to ourselves? We want to do all these things...have so many ideas...planted to us probably because of the days in which we live with so much inspiration around us daily.
I struggle with this same idea as well. I have to remind myself a lot!!! after trying things that I see and think I can do. I then don't enjoy it nearly as much as I thought I would.
I have had lots of failures as well. You made me chuckle a bit because I could have written the dialogue for your video.

  2. Hi Patty! I enjoyed the chat this morning! You want to know what I'm not good at.....pound cakes~ you have no idea how many times I have tried to bake a great pound cake and they all have "sad streaks"! Another thing is painting a room.....as hard as I try, I always get paint all over me and the room looks just awful no matter how hard I try! I even tried painting a piece of thrift store furniture, and it looked worse than when I bought it! Another thing I am terrible at is backing up my car.....I have had four accidents and they were all going backward! I can drive perfectly fine as long as it is forward! And one more ~ and I could list plenty more ~ I can't grow roses! I can grow other pretty things, but not roses and I have no idea why....I do everything right but I just cant grow a rose bush! Thank goodness my family loves me anyway! Keep chatting with us, I love seeing and hearing from you!

  3. It is kind of sad to think of all those wonderful blogs that have taken a back burner to IG and FB. While I like both of those there is just not the connection there that I find in the blogging world. At times I have thought of backing out and letting go, too, but the connection with bloggers (many of them several years old) brings me back time after time.

I struggle with being a perfectionist in an imperfect world. I don't compare myself to others or wish I had what they had--but I do push myself to my own limit sometimes. This last year has seen me take a step back though and I try to just let some things go and not worry about if something is perfect--sometimes good enough is just that---good enough.

Hope you have a great weekend. xo Diana

  4. Patty, I love, love, love you sweet girl. You have hit that big nail on the head. So what you can't roller skate in a buffalo herd, but you can be happy if you've a mind too (Roger Miller). We try to do too much...to perfection . You do know that Atlas was actually a woman...we've been trying to carry the weight of the world since time began. LOL. I laughed, please don't be mad, at your veggies. Seeing them in the first photos in the bowl....who knew they were as small as what you showed us in the video. I know diddly about growing veggie. I did plant a banana pepper in a pot by the porch and grew a few...not big, but good enough to eat. We are growing a tomato in a half whiskey barrel...it's those roma's...they are good enough to add to salads. We can not do it all, and by golly that's okay. I worked 30 years, raised 4 wonderful daughters. I feel like a hero. I think that's better than being the greatest gardener or decorator. We are all smart and talented in different ways...that makes us unique. Makes us interesting to others. We are good enough girl. :):) Blessings to you honey. xoxo, Susie

  5. Patty,

I thoroughly enjoyed your video! There are definitely things I cannot do and your words were a much needed reminder that it's ok. I also want to assure you that when I see the products you make and sell, I never think I can make it cheaper. Even though I am a crafter, I'm too busy thinking "I'm so glad Patty made this and now I don't have to, I can buy hers."
