HOW TO ESTABLISH A CLEANING ROUTINE - nesting

I know every spring everyone talks about the urge to clean and purge but I think I'm so busy in the garden that the thought of giving up that precious outdoor time to come inside and get organized just passes right by me.

For me that feeling hits somewhere around August when the back to school supplies hit the stores and
the weather makes being outside more of a chore than a joy.  The thought of a new school year and the holidays fast approaching makes me want to make everything fresh and new and so I start systematically cleaning and purging to my hearts content.

But what happens the other eleven months of the year?  Where is that desire?  For me it's almost non-existent and so the clutter and dust bunnies grow until sometime around mid summer and I bust my behind to get things in order again.  Is this cycle at all familiar to you?

Well, no more.  This time I am putting in place a regular rotation of cleaning that will help the big desire to edit and simplify that will inevitably come next year a lot easier.  I just uploaded a new video that explains what I have in mind.  I'd love to have you take a look at it and tell me what you think.

If you'd like to join me just hit the subscribe button on my YouTube Channel Life on Lemon Lane and let's do this thing together.  I believe you have to sign up for YouTube to subscribe and comment. That doesn't mean you have to make a video it just allows you to join in.

Hope to see you there.

I wrote about the importance of a cleaning schedule here and one on Loving Our Homes.

Here's my latest YouTube video on How to Establish a cleaning routine.  I'd love for you to subscribe and join in on the conversation because life isn't about perfection, it's about connection.

  1. Patty, your videos are really good. You are a natural on camera. I love How Jen does It. I binged watched that a couple of days. I see you have the Home Comforts book in your stack. That is one of my favorites.
I love your home because of all the color, and I think you are like me...the minimalism thing is cute on others, but I like my stuff. That in itself just makes the cleaning go a little longer. I love looking at my stuff. I like it orderly, but not gone. I have been working on a cleaning routine since retirement as well. WHEN I STAY on task, I found an area a day works best for me. I have a large home, so there is no such thing as all in one day especially with caring for mom, doing for my adult kids, and my church volunteering. The biggest part of my struggle is just staying with it. About the time I get on a routine, something comes along to mess it up:)

  2. That is so smart, Patty. I usually clean one day a week so I can kind of stay on top of things...but some 'things' get pushed off from week to week. I do pick up daily so that I don't have clutter staring me in the face----but it all that 'hidden' stuff that builds up. Hope you have a great upcoming weekend. xo Diana

  3. I used to clean my entire house in one day....with littles running everywhere.....and working part time from home and homeschooling! Whew, just typing that made me tired! Now, in my 50's, I have to tackle it in bites, and sometimes just nibbles. So I would love to see more inspiring cleaning videos and encouragement along the way. Now that I am an empty nester, you would think it would be easier, but I am a lot slower and maybe just not as motivated as I should be. Patty, help me get motivated!!! Blessings ~ Angela Lynne
