Saturday morning attitude check - let's chat

Good morning.  I'm sitting here in my favorite place to ponder, our annual garden.  This sweet spot is tucked in the rear of our backyard where there are a couple of new shade trees offering a respite from the afternoon heat.  It's the perfect place for planning and reflection.

pots filled with annuals

Our vacation was less than a week but it seems like I've been away for a long time (both from here
and from home) and that I'll be playing catch up for quite a while.  My eight year old grandson and I had a wonderful time with family in Central Oregon eating s'mores, camping, hiking through waterfalls, eating more s'mores, fishing and eating even more s'mores for the past six days.

Aside from the piles of laundry and ant invasion I returned to, everything seems to have held it's own while I was gone.  I don't know why I'm surprised, I guess I just have an over inflated notion of how much I'm needed around here.

My hubby (who stayed behind working) said he missed me and by the look in his relieved eyes, I
believe him.  My two year old grandson who lives with us won't let go of my neck, so clearly he noticed I was gone as well.

As nice as it was to get away and as beautiful as Oregon is, I am so happy to be home.  I always return inspired to get things in order and purge.  Isn't that funny?  Not sure why it is but somehow being away from home makes me want to make my home more of a place I long to be and that means getting rid of clutter and giving everything a good cleaning.  So that's my plan for the next week or two.

I also had a couple of packages waiting for me from Loft and JCPenney that I can't wait to share with you.  New sandals, ankle jeans and capris plus a couple of tops...I think I'm good for the long hot haul of summer now.  I just need to lose the few pounds (did I mention the s'mores?) I gained on vacation to fit in them!

a peaceful garden

I thought I would be returning to an empty nest but things didn't go as planned, and the inn is still full, so now we are rethinking and regrouping.  Over all though, I'm feeling good about life to spite the complications that always wiggle their way in.

I think I came face to face with what I cannot change and decided to change the one thing I can...my attitude toward them.

Hope you're feeling inspired to love your life this beautiful Saturday morning, too.

  2. Sounds like a nice little getaway. We just got home from a week away too. I woke up feeling the same as you this morning. A re organizing project and cleaning are on my schedule. On another note, you are a Wife, mom and grandma first and I love and admire that about you. Looking forward to seeing your new wardrobe additions too.

  3. Same here Patty.....when I'm away, I can't wait to get home and love on my house the way that makes me feel good.

And, my husband and I just discussed attitudes last night. There are so many things that have two sides, if only we would choose the positive side :) Not always easy, but our stress levels go way down when we choose to see the positive side.

  4. Patty, I am amazed at all you manage to do around your house. If I had three extra people living with me I would be going nuts and never get anything done. I think your good attitude helps energize you. Way to go girl!

  5. I needed this read today, Patty. I woke up feeling pretty defeated (honestly) over a few things that is out of my control in my life. Your fresh perspective helps and is a and reminder everyone has those things that ebb and flow in and out of life. I agree much of the time our attitude makes all the difference!
Oh, and your pretty outdoor book with the flower pots and coffee cup is all perfection!
    Blessings,
    Leslie

  6. Yes being away does change our perspective on things.. I too always feel more energized and take on new projects. I'm glad you vacation was so nice and that you are glad to be home. A positive attitude is the way to go...my hubby is very negative on most things and besides bringing me down, it also only makes him feel worse! I hope you enjoy the next few weeks "loving on" your home! I like how Debbie S. put it! Take care... Marilyn oh.. and am anxious to see your new duds.

  8. Patty, I am so glad you had a lovely vacation. Oregon is so beautiful....and cool!!! So much cooler than here. But home is home is home. I have to say, my heart did drop a bit, when I read that you are now regrouping. I will call you this week. We are off to the lake for a cool day of boating and floating.
