faith walk friday - I surrender all

I am finding that the biggest hurdle to living the good life is learning to refocus my mind.  Learning to give up worry and fear in my "what ifs".  It means really surrendering the future and those I love to the One who controls it in the first place.

Only in ridding my mind of the things I am trying so hard to control and change can I can start to refocus on the beautiful life that is already mine.

"Keep on praying.  No matter what happens always be thankful, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus."  1 Thessalonians 5:17-18

I have started two lists, one with my worries and fears and another with my hopes and dreams.  I will be spending the summer finding scripture promises that will bring me peace and joy in every one of the things I've written down.

My hope is to share a little of what I find here with you on Fridays.  I will warn you ahead of time that I may miss a Friday here or there as I am easily distracted here my blog.

I've also started another list.  This one is of things I wanted to do when I retired but still haven't gotten around to.  I'll be sharing that with you next week along with what I plan on doing about it.

Based on your comments and emails, I know I'm not alone on this journey.  Sometimes walking the path to change with others makes it easier to take the first step.  Let me know if your joining me.  I'd love to hear what's keeping you from living out your dreams, too.

Have a wonderful weekend.

  1. This is a great idea, two lists, one of fears and worries and one of God's words and your hopes and dreams; and then the retirement list too. These both resonate with me.

  2. We are SO on the same page! I lay awake unable to sleep last night thinking of the things I feel led to do and filled with dismay that I feel so unsure of how to accomplish them. Doubt, fear, more doubt! Lol, honestly, I feel a bit like Moses telling God that he really wasn't equipped. I'm here reading every word Patty!

  3. Indeed, the hardest hurdle is believing {or convincing ourselves} that there are things in our worries that we cannot control or change. I look forward to you sharing your journey.

  5. I'm a list maker... I have a bucket list that I started in 2013.... I retired in 2010 and feel I'm at least doing two of the things I always wanted to do when I retired........ and that is "crafting every day if I want to until my heart's content".... and the other is" stay up at night as late as I want and sleep in as late as I want"... because I've always been a nightowl and always had to work and get up early! I'm at least doing those two things for which I'm very grateful. I have other things I want to do and pray about them.. and feel they will come in God's time when I'm ready. Most things on my bucket list from two years ago though, have not been done! I try not to stress about them and feel they will happen when the time is right.

  6. I left work nearly a year ago and I have been busy with so many things to do with supporting my family, immediate and extended. In May I officially reached retirement age. I am still busy but soon could have a breathing space. There are things I would love to do in my active retirement years before health issues creep up on me. First I need to slow down enough to think. I shall enjoy being with you on your journey.

  7. What a great idea to write them down to clear your mind allowing God to take care of my worries. Can't wait to go on this journey with you.
