the marketplace - cute displays and a question

I just have a few pictures left to share of some cute displays and a fun question for you...

No commentary necessary on this photo.  I just love everything about this patriotic display.  From the Old Glory washi tape to the navy blue baby shoes, miniature flags and tattered lace.  I have not done one lick of 4th of July decorating this year and now I'm inspired to get going on it.

I love both of these ideas for an outdoor party.  Light up the fire pit and bring on the smores!  Who says you can't camp out in the backyard?

Another sweet look were these jars of blooms hanging from Shepard's hooks.  Such a pretty way to display flowers outside.

I wonder if you noticed all the recovered umbrellas that were used in the pictures I've been sharing.  Everything from crochet, to lace and old tablecloths were re-purposed to cover umbrellas.  How clever some people are!

And finally, my other swoon item...this upholstered chair.  I love it so!  The fabric is gorgeous and the style and shape of the chair...perfection.

I got into a little flashback contest with the ever so sweet Diana from Nana Diana takes a break over my blue post.  She mentioned that she was not a fan of "country blue".  Which got us cyber talking about goose decor, cut out hearts, big hair and Farrah Fawcett.

My question for you...What was the worst decade for decor and why?  Was it the avocado green of the 70's, the country blue of the eighties or maybe the southwestern flavor of the 90's?   I'll let you think about it a while.  I can't wait to hear.

Happy Friday and have a wonderful weekend.

xo, Patty

  1. Probably the 90's décor. That old 70's stuff is back in style. The 80's had the worse clothes and hair....I could never get my hair big enough. LOL. xoxo,Susie

  2. The orange and green......I still can't stand those colors. I think each era had some good and some back. As far as clothes, I have always done my own thing. Hairstyles......loved the shag haircuts.

  3. I think the eighties with the country blue, the hearts cut out of everything and it all seemed paired with mauve.

  4. All of those trends make my toes curl, I love color...except maybe those colors! Probably the one that I hated the worst was the country blue though. I didn't really live through those other trends but I blame country blue with turning me off to using blue in my decorating for years and years. Obviously there are other shades, and I seem to have gotten over it with all the blue in my kitchen now, but it took me 20+ years to not see that horrible shade in every blue decorating item I saw. I think it traumatized me! Lol

  5. Can I say, "all of the above"?
I did love the country blue in the 80's for my kitchen!
And I love that upholstered chair too, Patty.

  6. She doesn't like country blue? Am I lost in a time warp? Don't answer that. Oh, I'm visiting from Kathy's today, but I know Nana Diana and I am simply shocked. =D

The worst? I don't think of it that way. In fact, I don't think of it at all. I lived through it and did some of it...missed out on the Southwestern thing, but a cousin of mine still does it and I love it. To each her own. No matter what you're doing, it's all going to be trendy someday. I am going to chuckle when chalk paint is considered out.

That chair is gorgeous, but I'm personally taken with the suitcase in front of it.

  7. Patty,
Southwestern Flair of the 90's hit my home decor in a HUGE way on the other side of the Prairie!!!
The only female in an all male household, I went all out with Southwest design!!!
I still have the HUGE coffee table and end tables in the Lower Level Family Room!
As we exited the 90's, I found Martha stewart Living Magazine.
I've been slowly recapturing the Traditional Roots of my youth, ever since.
    "It's a Good Thing!"
    Fondly,
    Pat
